The Organization for the Advancement of Nigerians (OAN) Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the cultural, civic, social, and economic welfare of Nigerians throughout the United States. Based in Brooklyn, NY, OAN provides comprehensive community services designed to enhance the image of Nigerians in America while addressing the diverse needs of the Nigerian diaspora. Since its founding in 1989, OAN has established itself as the premier umbrella organization serving Nigerians from all ethnic and religious backgrounds. The organization operates multiple programs and initiatives including youth education and mentorship, community service projects, and professional networking opportunities. OAN coordinates the annual Nigerian Independence Day Parade in New York City, recognized as the largest celebration of Nigerian independence outside of Africa. The organization also facilitates adult and youth sports programs, including competitive soccer leagues, and hosts annual Education and Career Day events connecting Nigerian youth with professionals across various fields. Through its commitment to community engagement and cultural preservation, OAN works to instill appreciation for Nigerian history, customs, traditions, values, and religion in younger generations.
